A music release and Game Boy world — mapping The Hague’s underground in 8-bit.
Developed by BäRK and Royal Surfclub, Line Up: The Hague transforms the city’s underground into a playable Game Boy experience.
Each area — Grey Space, PIP, Laak and more — hides a track. To unlock it, players must explore, talk, and complete in-game quests.
Every level reveals a new loop, in both 8-bit and studio form, linking gameplay directly to sound release.
It’s a hybrid between album, archive and adventure — a digital excavation of The Hague’s nightlife where music isn’t just played; it’s earned.

Players explore a re-imagined 8-bit version of The Hague—moving through Grey Space, PIP, Laak, and other landmarks—where every location hides quests, side-stories, and rhythm-based challenges inspired by real nightlife events.
Blending Pokémon-style exploration, mini-games, and interactive dialogues with scene figures, the project merges sound design, storytelling, and cultural documentation.
Each in-game soundtrack exists in both 8-bit and studio form, connecting gameplay to music releases.
At once a video game, music release, an archive, and an art installation, Line Up: The Hague captures the pulse of a generation building culture from the basement up. At the same time, Line Up: The Hague rethinks how younger generations encounter club culture. In an age where many experience social life through digital spaces, the work uses the familiar language of retro gaming to reintroduce the energy and intimacy of nightlife. By meeting players inside a Game Boy world first, it invites them to rediscover the physical one waiting outside.
Each in-game soundtrack exists in both 8-bit and studio form, connecting gameplay to music releases.
Will be released as a digital edition and limited physical cartridge, the work extends into posters, silver relics, and live installations, forming the first chapter in the expanding Royal Surfclub universe.
